Circle Time

Gathering Together to Learn, Share, and Grow

Circle time is a foundational early childhood practice that supports comprehensive child development — expanding beyond academics to encompass social, emotional, and cognitive growth.

Children gathered for circle time

At Wundoroo Academy, we establish circular gatherings designed to encourage openness, collaboration, and mutual respect. Each session is integrated into the daily lesson framework and emphasizes group work skills — gathering together with intention, greeting peers at the start of the day, and expressing gratitude at its close.

Children are introduced to the "agenda of the meeting" in a fun and playful way through selected songs, felt board stories, finger plays, and interactive songs with movements according to the topic of the day.

Each child is given an opportunity to have their own input in the meeting by being encouraged to participate in discussions where they can express their thoughts and ideas, share their experiences, and ask questions — all while being in a safe, supportive place.

What Children Learn

  • Month names and the calendar
  • Numerical concepts and one-to-one correspondence through daily and weekly counting
  • Days of the week
  • Seasonal awareness and weather patterns
  • Sharing experiences and asking questions in a group setting

Our educators carefully observe and document student interests and curiosities during circle time, using these insights to shape future lesson plans and seize daily teachable moments. It is a space where every voice matters and every child belongs.
